Interview with H.H. Bancroft, June 20, 1878, recorded by Amos Bowman. Chiefly concerning her father's association with the Hudson's Bay Company and Americans in Oregon. Brief account of her own life as the wife of William G. Rae, in Alaska and California, 1840-1846. Letter of J.W. McL. Harvey to H.H. Bancroft, Oct. 20, 1878, enclosing specimen of Dr. McLoughlin's handwriting and signature, pasted in.

Elwood Evans (1828-1898), born in Philadelphia, went to Oregon Territory in 1851 as deputy collector of customs at Nisqually. From 1859 to 1861, he served as mayor of the newly incorporated town of Olympia, Washington. In addition to his historical work, A History of the Pacific Northwest, he contributed many historical articles to local papers. The Hudson's Bay Company began in 1670, and by the 1820s it had expanded to the Pacific Northwest. John McLoughlin served as the head of the Hudson's Bay Company's Columbia district.
